CAIRO: A low-ranking policeman was injured after an improvised explosive device went off next to a residential building in Cairo’s upscale district of Heliopolis Thursday, Youm7 reported.
The injured policeman has incurred bruises, cuts and abrasions as a result of the explosion, medical source told Youm7 adding that the policeman was immediately transferred to a hospital for treatment.
Security forces combed the area around the explosion in search of other potential bombs devices.
It is the latest in a series of attacks on security personnel as well as economic installations such as electricity pylons and mobile phone stores since the ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi in 2013.
The most prominent attack was the recent assassination of Attorney general Hisham Barakat in June when a bomb went off targeting his motorcade.
