CAIRO: Egyptian swimmer, Mustafa Atef, won first place in the 100 meter butterfly Friday in the 2015 edition of World Championship held in Kazan, Russia.
Sherif Ramses has won fifth place in the same competition, bringing Egypt to the balance of 13 medals on the fifth day of the tournament.
Atef expressed his pleasure to participate in the World Championship, vowing to continue to win medals for Egypt and seek an Olympic medal as well.
Yasser Idriss, head of Swimming Federation, is pleased with what has been achieved in the World Championship hosted by Kazan. The fourth place was occupied by swimmer Ahmed Akram in the finale of the 1500m, as well as the fifth place for women Farida Othman in the 50m butterfly, he told Al-Ahram Sport.
The achievement, he said, bring Egypt closer to a medal in the anticipated Rio de Janeiro competition in Brazil.
