Dozens poisoned after inhaling chlorine gas in Asyut

CAIRO: More than 50 people were poisoned Saturday evening after inhaling chlorine gas in Upper Egypt’s’ Asyut, Youm7 reported.

All patients have been treated in el-Qusiya hospital; two suffering from inflammation of lung tissue are in critical situation.

The residents inhaled the gas after a chlorine cylinder exploded at Qusiya Water Plant, Abdel Elah Ibrahim, deputy chairperson of governorate’s municipal council, said in a statement Sunday.

Those who were in charge of plant operation and works of safety and security when the incident occurred will be investigated, said Asyut governor Yasser al-Dosouki Sunday.
