CAIRO: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi will pay Russia a two-day visit starting Aug. 25 in light of enhancing bilateral cooperation between both countries, Presidential spokesperson Alaa Youssef stated Thursday.

“The President’s visit to Russia and his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin comes in the framework of the distinguished relations between the two countries,” the statement read, adding “the visit will give an opportunity to enhance cooperation with Russia in various fields, particularly economically.”

According to the visit schedule, the Russian President will hold a lunch banquet to be attended by the delegations of both countries; both leaders will hold a press conference after the banquet.

Sisi and his accompanying delegation will meet with high representatives of prominent businesses, the statement continued.

In February, Sisi and Putin announced in Cairo at a joint news conference that Moscow will assist Cairo to construct Egypt’s first nuclear power plant, which will be located in the Mediterranean city of Dabaa. Both countries also reached a deal to establish a free trade zone in Egypt.
