CAIRO: Egypt’s Minister of Culture Abdel Wahed al-Nabawy inaugurated Saturday the first Museum of Arabic Calligraphy in Alexandria, Egypt, Youm7 reported.
The museum is located inside the Museum of Fine Arts situated in the Moharram Bek area in Alexandria; it aims to document the history of Arabic calligraphy.
The inauguration was attended by the head of Fine Arts Sector Hamdy Abu al-Maaty and the Governor of Alexandria Hany al-Messiry.
“The museum includes a collection of unique Arabic manuscripts for former and current artists,” said Abu al-Maaty in a statement published for the sector.
The Museum of Fine Arts is known as the Hussein Sobhy Museum and was built in 1954. It has around 1,500 pieces of sculptures, architecture and photography by Egyptian and foreign artists, according to Egypt.travel website.
