CAIRO: China’s 152-ship navy fleet arrived in Alexandria port Wednesday in a five-day visit, Egyptian military spokesperson Mohamed Samir said Thursday.
The fleet is composed of three warships, 052C Missile Equipped Destroyer Ji Nan, 054A Missile Equipped Frigate Yi Yang, and 903 Integrated Supply Ship Qian Daohu, according to Xinhua on Thursday.
The friendly visit comes in the framework of the strategic relations between Egypt and China.
It is scheduled that the fleet will participate in joint maneuvers and training with the Egyptian Navy, according to Samir.
A ceremony was held welcoming the fleet. It was attended by Chinese Charge d’Affaires Ad Interim Qi Qianjin, Military Attache Yu Haibo, Consul General Xu Nanshan and representatives from the Egyptian navy, besides more than 300 other people, according to Xinhua.
The fleet’s visit coincides with the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of China’s World War II victory.
President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi visited China Sept. 1 to attend the celebrations; this visit is his second to China. In December, Sisi visited Beijing to enhance the bilateral relations between both countries, particularly in the economic field.
