CAIRO: The Saudi-led military Arab coalition denied deployment of any Egyptian ground troops in Aden, the state news agency MENA reported Friday.

In a phone call with the Riyadh-based Al Ekhbariya satellite T.V. channel Friday, the Saudi-led Arab coalition spokesperson Ahmed Assiri said, “There are no Egyptian nor Sudanese ground forces in Aden at the moment, it is inaccurate information” adding that the coalition continues to help fight against the Houthi militia in Taiz, Aden and other areas.

The denial comes amid conflicting media reports of a deployment of 800 Egyptian ground troops and personnel carriers in Yemen to face the Iran-backed Houthi militia.

In a Wednesday statement, the Egyptian presidency has also denied the news describing it as “groundless.”

The coalition includes nine Arab states and aims to restore the government of Yemeni President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi.
