CAIRO: President Abdel-Fatah al-Sisi met Saturday with European Council President Donald Tusk at the presidential Palace in Heliopolis to discuss unregistered migrants crisis, according to a statement from the Egyptian presidency.
Tusk is visiting Cairo in a tour to Egypt and Jordan to talk on the flow of refugees from the Middle East to Europe.
The meeting came ahead of the European summit slated for September 23 to discuss Members of the European Union’s dealing with the issue of refugees.
Tusk called Thursday for an emergency European meeting to tackle the refugee crisis, after Germany chancellor Angela Merkel urged Tusk to do so, Reuters reported.
In a press conference held following the meeting, Sisi said he and Tusk have discussed urgent issues including the situation in the Middle East, particularly in Libya, Syria, and refugee crisis that faces European countries.
“We agreed on the need to work intensively in more coordinated way to reach a settlement of those crises and conflicts,” Sisi said.
On the latest Israeli violations in Jerusalem, Sisi blamed Israeli government for the attacks, saying “the daily unprecedented violations in the Al-Aqsa Mosque create very critical situations and indicate to the failure of the Israeli government to carry out its responsibilities.”
