CAIRO: Civil protection forces contained a fire that erupted Sunday morning at a toy warehouse at Cairo’s northern district of al-Mokkatam, Youm7 reported.
Ten fire trucks were dispatched to the site to extinguish the blaze to prevent a spread to neighboring houses. The blaze broke out in a residential apartment used for storage of the toys in Mokkatam’s road 9.
Residents of the nearby area hurried to evacuate their homes, fearing that the fire might spread. No deaths or injuries have been reported.
The cause of the fire remains unknown; meanwhile, official sources at North Cairo Prosecution told Youm7 a preliminary investigation indicates that a short circuit caused the fire. Several fires have erupted across the country during the past few months.
On Aug. 22, a fire broke out in the eight-story building of El-Ataba call center in downtown Cairo leaving no casualties among civilians while a police officer was injured due to smoke inhalation.
On Aug. 9, a large fire erupted at a paint factory in the 6 October City south of Cairo, the cause of which is still unknown.
