CAIRO: A total of 1.3 million EGP ($166,000) were robbed by gunmen in 10th of Ramadan City when staff in two corporate vehicles were held up at gunpoint after they had withdrawn the funds from Al-Ahly Bank, Youm7 reported Sunday.
The gunmen followed the two cars after leaving the vicinity of the bank in the city east of Cairo, stopped them and threatened those on board at gunpoint. A million EGP was stolen from Metrotec, an Egyptian-German company for water meters and 300,000 EGP from Delta Construction. The two companies are located in the industrial city of 10th of Ramadan.
Robbing cars after withdrawing money from bank has occurred a few times in the past few years. Six convicts accused of armed robbery challenged in June sentences of life in prison handed down to them in March. In February 2013, they robbed a vehicle of Banque Misr and stealing 1.2 million EGP in Damietta.
