CAIRO: Central Security Forces Captain Mohamed Tarek won the golden medal of the World Police Swimming Championship, held in Colombia, Youm7 reported Thursday.

The championship is held as part of the International Police Sports Union (USIP.) Tarek is also a player at the Police Sports Union Club.

In the September All-African Games in Congo, the Egyptian swimming team ended in second place with 41 medals (11 gold, 18 silver and 12 bronze,) behind South Africa, leaving hope that Egypt may acquire a medal at the Olympic Games next in 2016.

Egyptian swimmer Ahmed Akram and Farida Othman had a strong showing recently in a Russian competition; both Akram and Othman became the first Egyptians to qualify for the men’s 1500m final at the World Championships and the women’s 50m butterfly final, respectively.
