CAIRO: Al Ahly was disqualified in the African Confederation Cup final Sunday evening after losing to South Africa’s Orlando Pirates 5-3 on aggregate.
Orlando scored 4-3 aggregate victory as it defeated the title holder Al Ahly 1-0 last week in South Africa.
Orlando Pirates will meet Tunisia’s Etoile du Sahel in a two-legged final in November. Etoile du Sahel defeated Egypt’s Zamalek Saturday 5-4 on aggregate.
Al-Ahly board of directors is scheduled to have a meeting Monday evening on the humiliating loss and the teams’ bad results this season of losing the Egyptian Premiers League and the Egyptian Cup. The sacking Al Ahly coach Fathy Mabrouk is expected during today’s meeting, according to media reports.
“I am so sad the game went that way. I never expected this result,” Al Ahram quoted Mabrouk Sunday.
