Egypt vaccinates 44 million animals and birds

CAIRO: Ministry of Agriculture vaccinated around 44 million animals and birds against 6 diseases from January to July in Egypt’s governorates, in a move to preserve animal resources, Youm7 reported Tuesday.

A report of the Central Department of Preventive Medicine revealed that the vaccination campaign included cows, buffalos, camels, sheep, goats and birds against Aphthous fever, Rift Valley fever, sheep pox, cow pox, pest of small ruminants and bird flu diseases.

“The organization is following the specifications of World Organization for Animal Health in the vaccination process; guidance programs are launched periodically and waste disposal campaigns are being intensified to prevent the spread of diseases,” The Head of the General Organization of Veterinary Services Mohamed Attya told Youm7 Tuesday.

According to Attya, the organization provides free vaccinations for the birds bred in captivity; also, vaccination campaigns are to continue in governorates to fight diseases.
