CAIRO: A trio of would-be smugglers were apprehended at the Borg al-Arab airport near Alexandria; one man was found with 70,000 Saudi Riyals stuffed into a slipperhe was wearing, with the other two carrying a total of 100,000 around their waists, Youm7 reported Tuesday.
The trio were en route to Dubai, officials said.
Earlier this week officials at the airport detained a woman also traveling to Dubai for being in possession of 320,000 Saudi Riyals ($85,000.)
The woman, identified as “A.G.” had the bills on her person, which were discovered during routine security screening, Youm7 reported.
The Sallum border also sees numerous smuggling attempts, and is under scrutiny from security officials. In April, a man was arrested trying to carry $1.9 million across the border into Libya.
