CAIRO: The Minister of Education El-Helaly el-Sherbeiny has ordered that maintenance works at schools included in the development plan must be finalized by Nov. 22, Youm7 reported Friday.
The maintenance plan includes simple and comprehensive repairing of an unspecified number of schools; the academic year began Sep. 28.
In March, a total of 147 schools across the country were closed over fears of risks on students due to “maintenance issues,” as many of the school buildings were reported as dilapidated.
In 2014, at least two students were killed at governmental schools due to what was slammed by the media as “negligent” school maintenance.
In October 2014, two students were killed; one after a gate fell on him, and the other after a cracked window severed blood vessels in his neck.
Educational directorates in different governorates claimed then that insufficient funds were allocated for maintenance and repairs.
