CAIRO: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi met Sunday with Prime Minister Sherif Ismail, and other Cabinet members to follow up progress in the implementation of a number of national mega projects, a presidential statement read.
The meeting was attended by the ministers of planning, housing, investment, water resources, agriculture and land reclamation,
During the meeting, Sisi was briefed on the outcome of the meetings held by the relevant ministries and authorities which studied the economic aspects of the mega project of reclamation and development of 1.5 million feddans (1.557 million acres,) the statement read.
The Prime Minister said that the first phase of the project will begin by soon offering 10,000 feddans in the Farafra area. He further affirmed that the project will encompass integrated urban communities, beside agricultural activities.
“The President agreed that the project should be implemented by establishing an investment zone that will be developed, managed, and promoted by a government-owned company,” according to the statement.
Sisi ordered to swiftly begin the implementation of the project in November 2015. He also reiterated the importance of the 1.5 million feddan land reclamation project to attract direct investment, generate new jobs, safeguard food security for Egypt, and to ease congestion in the delta and the narrow Nile Valley.
