CAIRO: Two unidentified assailants on a motorbike fatally shot a low-ranking policeman in Beni Suef, Upper Egypt, during the early hours of Sunday, Youm7 reported.
Khalifa Ali, who worked at Beni Suef Homeland Security, was shot in a car while returning from work. He died of his wounds at the Fashn central hospital south of the governorate.
Several policemen have been killed in different governorates in drive-by shootings since the 2013 ouster of President Mohamed Morsi. Most of the targeted policemen were killed while returning home.
While the most wide-scale attacks have occurred in North Sinai, smaller-scale attacks in the rest of Egypt have mostly used improvised explosive devices and hit-and-run shootings on motorbikes; car bombs have also been used.
