CAIRO: A Yemeni delegation headed by the former Minister of Public Works and Highways Omar al-Korshomi arrived in Cairo Monday to meet with Egyptian and Arab League officials, DPA reported.

Yemeni sources told DPA that the delegation will discuss solutions to the Yemeni crisis in light of the efforts of the U.N. Special Envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, according to DPA.

Korshomi arrived from Sana’a after a transit in Saudi Arabia.

Egypt is part of the Saudi-led coalition fighting the Shiite Houthis in Yemen; unlike Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates, Egypt’s participation is limited to naval and air forces, according to official statements.

Yemen’s government agreed to attend U.N.-sponsored talks with the Houthis and supporters of former president Ali Abdullah Saleh, government spokesperson Rajeh Badi told Reuters Oct. 18.

Yemen’s regional conflict has claimed the lives of over 5,000 people, including civilians and children.
