8 Egyptians killed, 12 injured in Jordan customs explosion

CAIRO: Five Egyptian expats in Jordan were killed and eight were injured Monday in a huge fire erupted at a customs checkpoint in Amman, Youm7 reported.

The fire erupted Monday evening after two containers filled with fireworks exploded in the customs’ storerooms.

Three Jordanians were also killed in the fire, a well-informed source at the Jordan Customs Department told Youm7.

Firefighters have been deployed to the area and were able to extinguish the blaze which also damaged dozens of vehicles in the surrounding area.

Egyptian Ambassador to Amman Khaled Tharwat said that he visited the injured at the Al Hanan hospital while he instructed the Egyptian Consul in Amman to visit the injured currently being hospitalized at Al Bashir hospital.
