CAIRO: An engineer and two administrators of the Ministry of Irrigation have been arrested for accepting a 100,000 EGP ($12,450) bribe in exchange for licensing a club with a Nile River view, Youm7 reported Wednesday.
A ministry official told Youm7 that the trio had agreed to a 60,000 EGP down payment, and were expecting to receive the rest after the club’s licensing.
Irrigation Minister Hossam Moghazi announced last week he had formed a committee to address corruption in the ministry, per orders from the presidency to root out graft.
The former minister of agriculture Salah Helal was arrested in mid-September for corruption, hours after he tendered his resignation to President Sisi. A subsequent inquiry led to 11 ministry officials being charged with embezzlement.
