CAIRO: A detainee charged with drug dealing died of a heart attack inside Talbiya police station cell in Giza’s Haram Friday, Youm7 reported.
A Scorpion Prison inmate charged with belonging to Sinai-based Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis militant group died Thursday due to kidney failure.
On Aug. 9, Al-Gama’a al-Islamiyya leader Essam Derbala died in the same prison amid allegations he died due to medical malpractice. On June 18, a detainee died at Matariya police station north of Cairo due to circulatory collapse.
Another Muslim Brotherhood inmate died May 25 in jail due to suspected medical malpractice.
Two men died at Matariya police station in April; one of whom was confirmed to have died of torture.
Around April, human rights organizations slammed overcrowding and poor ventilation at detention units that led to deaths and fatigue among prisoners.
