CAIRO: A striking industrial worker attempted suicide in front of the Journalists’ Syndicate Sunday, in protest over delayed financial dues, Youm7 reported.

The worker took a noose and hung it from a tree, and tried to hang himself, but surrounding workers intervened to stop him.

Suicide is extremely rare in Egypt, and when it does occur cases frequently receive media attention.

The Journalists’ Syndicate is a popular location for protesters seeking media attention.
