CAIRO: Claims by the Islamic state group that it downed a Russian plane carrying 224 passengers are propaganda said Egyptian president Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi in an interview with BBC released Tuesday.
Initial claims by militant groups that they were responsible for the crash were dismissed by Cairo which said the flight was traveling too high to be targeted by missile. An international team of experts arrived on Sunday to the crash site to examine the remains of the plane.
It is still “too early” to state the cause of the crash, said Sisi.
South Sinai is a major tourist destination for Russians, and estimated 1.6 million visited the peninsula in 2014.
The black box of the plane was recovered on Sunday and sent for analysis. On Monday report said that the plane had sent no distress call before it crashed.
