CAIRO: Egypt’s Ministry of Awqaf (Religious Endowments) will publish Friday sermons in English, Youm7 reported the Ministry’s statement Tuesday.
The first publication will be Nov. 5 for all non-Arabic speakers. The ministry is the religious institution responsible for the Friday sermons in all mosques nationwide, according to the statement.
No further details were given on whether the translated sermons will be published in print or online.
Following the ouster of former President Mohamed Morsi, the Ministry unified the topic of the religious sermons during Friday prayers to prevent “politicizing” the sermons which had been given sometimes by hardline or Muslim Brotherhood preachers.
In September ahead of celebration of Adha feat (sacrifice), the ministry warned the moderate preachersof using the politics in the sermons.
However, the ministry unified Oct. 16 the Friday sermon to be about participation in the parliamentary elections, which kicked off Oct. 17.
