CAIRO: A total of 5,000 Alexandria homes have been ordered evacuated per a Wednesday Prime Minister Sherif Ismail decree.
The designated homes in the Mediterranean city are either more than 100 years old or are vulnerable to collapse.
An engineering committee will inspect the said houses and decide whether they should be demolished or renovated.
Meanwhile, affected residents will be provided accommodation in “available lands,” according to the decree.
Three residential buildings collapsed over the past three days amid heavy showers experienced by the governorate; three people were killed in the incidents.
The collapses have revealed that thousands of homes in Alexandria are uninhabitable .
