Mufti condemns storming of al-Aqsa Mosque by extremists
Egypt's Grand Mufti Shawqi Allam - YOUM7/Sami Waheeb

Egypt’s mufti condemned Wednesday the storming of al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem by tens of Israeli extremists. Mufti Dr. Shawky Allam warned of the results of such provocative acts by Israeli forces and their insistence on provoking Muslims and the Arab world.

The Mufti said Israel’s insistence on constructing a platform at the southern end of the Buraque yard by al-Aqsa’s wall is a blatantly irresponsible assault on an Islamic historical monument.

Mufti Allam urged the Arab League, the international community and organizations to halt attempts by the “Israeli occupation” to assault Islamist sanctities and historical landmarks, referring to the “smugness” of Israel, who he said ignores international conventions and decisions of UNESCO, which states that historical landmarks in such a holy city are untouchable.

Regarding Palestinian detainees arrested because they tried to stop the break in, the Mufti asked Israel to release them. He also asked that the platform be destroyed and removed from Buraque’s yard immediately, appealing to all Arabs and Muslims – especially from “beloved Palestine” – to protect al-Aqsa, and stop Israel’s violations.
