CAIRO: Continuous floods in Egypt’s coastal governorate of Beheira have reportedly killed 22 people, eight of them died of electric shocks.
A total of 14 of the deaths died inside their bedrooms after accumulated rainwater surrounded their homes.
Some 35 were reportedly injured and hospitalized in a hospital in Wadi el-Natroun.
Beheira is one of the governorates which have been highly affected by a wave of heavy showers hitting the country. Last Thursday was announced a vacation for students in the governorate due to the bad weather.
Main streets in the governorate were inundated by water, causing traffic problems. Some 20 homes collapsed and residents were relocated in new houses in Wadi el-Natroun.
Unstable weather witnessed in coastal cities is expected to continue until Wednesday, according to Egypt’s Meteorological Authority.
