CAIRO: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi held a meeting Saturday with Prime Minister Sherif Ismail, Housing Minister Mostafa Madboly and Local Development Minister Ahmed Zaki Badr to discuss the recent crises of Alexandria and Beheira governorates flooded by rainwater, according to a statement from the Cabinet.
It was scheduled that Ismail will attend a ceremony of delivering 25 housing units in the newly-built Badr city for the Egyptians who live in slums and endangered areas; however, the visit was cancelled due to the urgent meeting, the statement added.
More than 20 people, including children, were killed in weather-related accidents in Delta’s Beheira where a village drowned and more than 20 houses collapsed.
Alexandria, Dakahlia, Damietta and Beheira governorates were affected most after rainwater inundated streets and caused traffic congestion; in some parts, it caused causalities.
The governorate has been stricken by continuous heavy rainfall amid unstable weather hitting the whole country. The Meteorological Authority has warned governorates, especially coastal ones, of a drop in temperature and heavy showers.
