CAIRO: Businessman Salah Diab, co-founder of major Egyptian newspaper Al-Masry Al-Youm, was arrested Sunday morning from his home, on charges of embezzlement and wasting public money, Youm7 reported.
Egypt’s Attorney General Nabil Sadek issued a decision Friday to confiscate assets of Gamal Mubarak’s father-in-law and other 16 businesspersons, including Diab.
The decision names Mahmoud al-Gammal, his wife, the grandson of former Al-Azhar Sheikh Medhat Gad al-Haq, and 13 others. They face numerous charges including purchasing a piece of land in the 6 of October City to build a housing investment project called the New Giza for prices cheaper than the market.
The Attorney General set Nov. 10 to consider the case before a Cairo Criminal Court.
