3.5 tons of rotten processed meat confiscated in el-Marg, Cairo

CAIRO: A total of 3.5 tons of rotten processed meat has been confiscated in el-Marg, northeast of Cairo Sunday, an official source at the veterinary directorate at Cairo Governorate told Youm7.

The meat will be transferred to the directorate’s headquarters to be neutralized, the source said, adding that the campaign came at the order of Cairo Governor Galal el-Saeed to investigate “traders of rotten meat.”

Amid rising prices of meat, and private meat imports reduced due to Egypt pound depreciation, the authorities have confiscated tons of bad meat recently.

Most recently on Oct. 12, two tons of rotten meat was confiscated at a famous restaurant in Haram district of Giza and the case was referred to the prosecution.
