CAIRO: A total of 7,000 imported cattle heads will arrive at the quarantine centers of the Agriculture Ministry Wednesday for immediate slaughter, Youm7 reported.

The animals will first go to quarantine centers of the veterinary department of the ministry for some tests, head of the department Sayed Gad el-Moula told Youm7.

Of the imported cattle, 5,000 come from Moldova and 2,000 from Ukraine.

More cattle will be imported soon for slaughter and fattening, according to Gad el-Moula.

The price of imported frozen meat has been reduced from 57 to 50 EGP per kilo at state-owned consumer complexes, head of al-Ahram Consumer Complexes Company Tarek Tantawy told Youm7 Tuesday.

Meanwhile, private meat imports were reduced by 30 percent compared to last year due to the recent Egyptian pound depreciation against the U.S. dollar, Gad el-Moula told Youm7 Nov. 5.

In a speech Nov.1, President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi urged owners of businesses that offer basic commodities, especially food, to not raise the prices of their products after the price of the dollar against the pound increased.

He also vowed that the government and Armed Forces would intervene to regulate prices.

Trucks bearing the logo of the Armed Forces have been seen at several squares in Cairo, selling meat, poultry and other goods at prices lower than the average, with crowds of people gathering around the trucks.
