CAIRO: The Tourism Ministry will launch the “This Is Egypt” tourism promotion campaign in five Arab countries as of Dec. 1, Youm7 reported.

“The campaign will initially target five countries: Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the UAE, Jordan and Lebanon. It aims to increase the number of Arab tourists visiting Egypt especially during Christmas,” Chairman of the Egypt Tourism Authority (ETA) Sami Mahmoud was quoted by Youm7.

The campaign is a bid to bring back tourism to its previous levels after being dramatically affected by political turmoil during the past four years, the ministry developed a special program with competitive prices for Arab countries, Tourism Minister Hisham Zaazou said Thursday.

Zaazou is scheduled to travel to these countries by the end of December to launch the campaign.

The activities of the campaign have been suspended in seven European countries in the wake of a Russian plane crash Oct. 31.

Arab countries contribute an estimated 20 percent of the tourists that come to Egypt every year, the minister said.
