CAIRO: Dead bodies of three illegal migrants were recovered off the northern coast of Egypt’s Delta governorate of Beheira Saturday after their boat drowned on its way to Italy, Youm7 reported.

Five, out of 13 people onboard were rescued while five others are still missing. Coast guards and policemen are still searching for the missing people.

Egypt has intervened in a number of migration attempts by hundreds of asylum seekers from the Middle East and North Africa, particularly from Egypt Syria, Iraq and Libya, via the Mediterranean to Italy or Greece as gates for other European countries.

In October, ten Syrian and Iraqi migrants on board of a fishing boat drowned near Burullus village in Kafr el-Sheikh governorate.

In his speech at the two-day Valletta Summit on migration that held Wednesday and Thursday, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry called for “facilitating measures of legal migration,” as a way to curb illegal migration.
