Muslim Council for Elders dispatches convoys to correct ‘wrong Islamic concepts’
Al-Azhar Imam Ahmed Al-Tayeb - YOUM7

CAIRO:The international Muslim Council of Elders (MCE) announced Saturday it launched 14 peace convoys worldwide to disseminate “correct Islamic concepts.”

Under the slogan of “All the peoples of the world are human; everyone has sight to live in security and peace,”  the campaigns aim to rectify all wrong concepts on Islam, said al-Azhar Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayeb in his speech.

“The mission (of the scholars) is extremely complicated… we shall extinguish fires and get rid of the sources of tension in the Arab and Islamic world through fighting extremist ideologies in all its forms and manifestations,” Tayeb said.

He noted that those militants and gangs took religions as cover for their endless bloody deeds as the world has seen another terrorist attack in Mali where dozens of people were held as hostages. He denounced burning the Holy Quraan and mosques in some western countries.

“Those who burned the Quraan and Allah’s houses (Mosques) in the West should know that these acts represent terrorism in all standards and the fuel for terrorist ideologies,” Tayeb continued.

The MCE conference was held in Cairo and focused on the counter-terrorism efforts by the religious clergymen in the region following the recent Paris attacks that killed at least 129 people.

The MEC was founded on July 2014 to promote peace in the Muslim communities worldwide, according to the council’s official website.

An Al-Azhar delegation will participate in an international conference on teaching Islamic studies scheduled to kick off Tuesday.
