CAIRO: Journalists Syndicate said Sunday it had formed an operation room to follow the electoral process of Egypt’s ongoing second phase of parliamentary elections, state newspaper Al Ahram reported.
The operation room was set “to receive complaints and reports of violations that might be committed during the vote. It is also set so that fellow journalists can report any abuses they may face while covering the voting process in 13 governorates,” the syndicate’s Secretary General Gamal Abdel Rahim was quoted by Al Ahram.
He added that the operation room is managed by syndicate members tasked with receiving reports throughout the election period and communicate with officials to overcome the obstacles faced by journalists.
The syndicate has allocated phone no. 01066688888 to receive journalists’ complaints.
The two-day voting for Egyptians living within the country kicked off Sunday while results will be announced Tuesday. Appeals against results are to be filed by unsuccessful candidates Nov. 24-25 with a final say on Nov. 25, Marwan announced late August.
