CAIRO: Five Sudanese persons were killed and 11 others injured when they attempted to enter Israel through the Egyptian eastern borders, the military spokesperson announced Monday.
The injured, including five in critical situation, were transported to Sheikh Zuwayed hospital in Arish, a medical source told Youm7.
Earlier November, 15 Sudanese immigrants were killed by the security forces when they tried to illegally enter into Israel, AP reported. In June, an illegal immigration attempt into Israel by 26 African people was foiled by central security forces.
Egypt’s borders with Israel routinely witnesses incidents of drug-smuggling and illegal immigration. In February, six Sudanese people were arrested attempting to access Israel illegally. In a separate incident in the same month, two suspected smugglers were killed at the Egyptian-Israeli borders in an exchange of fire from the two countries and the smugglers, Haaretz reported.
