CAIRO: Women police have been deployed at some polling stations to search female voters and prevent sexual harassment during the second phase of the parliamentary elections Monday, Youm7 reported.
The female officers were seen in the vicinity of women-only polling stations to prevent men from reaching them and to help segregate them from women. They also guided women to cast their votes.
Monday will conclude the second day of voting in the second phase of the elections in 13 governorates. The runoffs will be held Dec 1.
Over 20,000 Egyptian expats in 139 countries cast their ballots in the first day of parliament election second round, a Foreign Ministry official was quoted by Youm7 Sunday.
The turnout of the runoff of the first phase of the elections reached 21.7 percent, down from 26.56 percent in the first round, head of the High Election Committee (HEC) Ayman Abbas said in a press conference Oct 30.
