CAIRO: A total of 30,000 ducks from France were neutralized Friday at Cairo Airport as Egypt has banned importing birds from the European state to prevent avian flu from reaching Egypt, Youm7 reported.

Head of the Veterinary Quarantine at the airport Safwat Mubarak told Youm7 that he received an order from the Cabinet to halt bird imports from France because cases of bird flu have been recorded there, according to information obtained from the World Organization for Animal Health.

France detected the H5N1 virus in the southwestern region, killing 22 chickens kept in a backyard at the Biras in the Perigord region, Reuters reported Wednesday.
