CAIRO: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi headed for Paris Sunday to participate in the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC,) according to presidential statement.
Over 135 heads of state and government will be taking part in the event which will take place from Nov. 30 to December 11. It aims to push for the enacting of global policies to limit the global temperature increase to 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrialization era levels.
“Egypt’s participation at the conference this year is of increased importance given that Sisi chairs the Committee of African Heads of State on Climate Change (CAHOSCC).Egypt also assumes the chairmanship of the African Ministerial Conference on the Environment, AMCEN. At the conference, Egypt will therefore defend Africa’s interests in relation to the various climate change issues and causes,” said the statement.
Sisi will also meet with French President Francois Hollande for bilateral talks, presidential spokesperson Ala Youssef said.
The Egyptian President will also meet with French Prime Minister Manuel Valls, President of the French Senate Gérard Larcher, French ministers of defense and interior along with a number of senior officials and leaders attending the conference, he added.
