CAIRO: First Lieutenant Mohamed Ibrahim has been suspended until investigations into the death of a veterinarian after his detention are concluded, Youm7 reported Sunday.

On Thursday, Ibrahim headed to a pharmacy in Ismailia and arrested Afifi Hosni, the husband of the owner of the pharmacy. He was filmed in a CCTV video physically intimidating Hosni and grabbing him by the neck.

Afifi’s wife, the Pharmacists’ Syndicate and the Veterinarians Syndicate all claim that Afifi was further abused inside Ismailia First Police Station.

The Pharmacists Syndicate released a statement on the incident Thursday, labeling the attack a “brutal assault.” The syndicate also said it will not tolerate “raiding medical establishments” without a prosecution permit.

The case is one of three where detainees died inside police station in one week in Egypt; a man in Luxor was reported dead soon after his detention in possession of drugs on Tuesday, and another defendant was allegedly killed by the police while searching him before bringing him before the prosecution.
