CAIRO: Egypt Air started direct charter flights from Abu Dhabi to Sharm el-Sheikh Monday on a Boeing B737-80 with 100 passengers on board, according to a statement by head of the company Sherif Fathy.
The second flight will take off Dec. 1 with 140 passengers on board, as part of an initiative that aims to promote tourism in Sharm el-Sheikh after the crash of a Russian plane in Sinai.
Egypt Air also plans to launch direct flights between Abu Dhabi and Egypt’s Luxor and Aswan during the mid-year vacation. The trip will include diverse programs of sightseeing.
Further, Egypt Air has increased weekly flights from Cairo to Abu Dhabi from 11 to 18 as the passenger turnout is higher during the New Year and mid-year vacation.
Direct flights from Kuwait to Egypt’s Sharm el-Sheikh will also be increased to boost tourism in the Red Sea resort, Kuwaiti Information Minister Salman al-Sabah announced Nov. 23 in Cairo.
