CAIRO: HeforShe solidarity movement for gender equality will be launched in Egypt from Cairo University campus at 1 pm, on the 2nd of December, 2015. HeForShe is a solidarity movement for gender equality developed by UN Women to engage men and boys as advocates and agents of change for the achievement of gender equality and women’s rights.
The campaign encourages them to speak out and take action against discrimination and inequalities faced by women and girls.
The event is under the auspices of Professor Dr. Gaber Nassar, President of Cairo University, in partnership with UN Women and Cairo University Anti-Harassment Unit.
One of the most important activities of the event is a show of solidarity for gender equality by Professor Dr. Gaber Nassar and senior male officials at Cairo University by registering their names on the HeForShe website (http://www.heforshe.org).
This is followed by opening speeches by Dr. Miwa Kato, UN Women Egypt Country Director, and Professor Dr. Gaber Nassar. In addition, a presentation showcasing the activities of the Anti-Harassment Unit as an example of the leadership of Cairo University in implementing the HeForShe movement goals.
The presentation will be given by Professor Dr. Maha El Said, Head of the Executive Committee of Cairo University Anti-Harassment Unit. The event continues with performance of Aikido, the modern Japanese martial art for self-defense by a student initiative, and a musical performance by Rapper and HeForShe Champion Zap Tharwat.
To conclude the event, the dome of Cairo University will be lit in orange to highlight the global annual campaign sponsored by UN Women: the 16 Days of Activism to End Violence against Women.
