CAIRO: Chief of Staff Mahmoud Hegazy met with Japan’s Chief of Staff of the Joint Staff Office Katsutoshi Kawano Thursday to discuss military cooperation, according to a statement by Egypt’s Defense Ministry.

Katsutoshi, leading a high-level delegation, will stay in Egypt for several days to tackle regional and international stability with Egyptian officials, the statement said.

The official visit’s aims to “exchange views” on subjects of mutual concerns and the changes of the security situation globally.

Mahmoud has met with the chiefs of several foreign militaries in the past year.

He traveled to France, United Arab Emirates, and Spain from October to December in official visits and met with his U.K. counterpart Nicholas Houghton in Cairo in September.
