CAIRO: An 18-year-old student was killed and six other people injured after a gas butane cylinder exploded Saturday morning in a four-storey building in Delta’s Menoufia governorate, Youm7 reported.

The explosion caused cracks in adjacent three buildings. Meanwhile, all victims have been transported to al-Bagour Public Hospital.

One of the injured people told Youm7 that the explosion occurred when residents at the building tried to change an empty gas butane cylinder with the one that exploded.

In Upper Egypt’s sohag, five people, including two children, were injured when a gas butane cylinder exploded Friday. They suffered from third-degree burns, Youm7 reported. In October, two people were killed and eight others injured when local residents, in a building in Asyut, tried to change a gas butane cylinder.

Thousands of houses in Egypt use gas butane cylinders.
