CAIRO:Attorney General of Luxor prosecutions Ahmed Abdel Rahman ordered Saturday the detention of five low-ranking officers for four days pending investigation on charges of torturing Talaat Shabib to death at the Luxor police station, Al Shorouq reported.
The decision is based on forensics report released Thursday. “Shabib suffered a blow to the neck and the back, which resulted in a cut in the spinal cord and accordingly his death,” according to the report.
On Friday, four officers were ordered detained for four days pending investigations into the incident.
While the Interior Ministry says such incidents “are not systematic,” it vowed to bring perpetrators of such cases to justice.
In a visit to the Police Academy Thursday, President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi said the officers should not be all painted with a broad brush due to the violations of some.
