CAIRO: An officer and three conscripts were killed and four others injured Tuesday after a roadside bomb detonated on a highway in North Sinai’s city of Rafah, Youm7 reported.
The bomb exploded nearby an armored vehicle used by the army personnel to patrol the streets in Rafah, the source said.
The victims were transported to Arish Hospital while security forces combed the area in search for the perpetrators, he added.
Egypt has witnessed a significant rise in militancy since the military-backed ouster of Islamist President Mohamed Morsi in July 2013 following mass protests against his rule. According to the Interior Ministry, militant attacks have killed more than 500 security personnel since then.
