CAIRO: Egypt signed a memorandum of understanding with Russia to manufacture 700 railroad cars Wednesday, Youm7 reported.
The signing ceremony took place in the presence of Transport Minister Saad al-Geoushy and International Cooperation Minister Sahar Nasr.
“The railroad cars will be manufactured by Egyptian and Russian made spare parts and will be assembled in Egyptian factories,” said Geoushy.
Other details of the agreement were not disclosed. However, the preliminary agreement was reached during a recent visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Egypt.
Since February 2014, Transmashholding (TMH), the largest manufacturer of passenger railroad cars in Russia has been in talks with the Egyptian National Railways (ENR) for the supply passenger rail cars this year, Youm7 reported.
