CAIRO: A total of 40 bags of explosives were seized in a car inside the Martyr Ahmed Hamdy Tunnel that connects Suez with the Sinai Peninsula, according to military spokesperson Mohamed Samir’s Facebook page Wednesday.
Some eight cylindrical devices containing explosive material and amount of 42,822 EGP were also found hidden inside the car, said the statement.
In a related context, border guards have seized a Toyota Land Cruiser vehicle without metal plates in Al-Bowety district in Baharia Oasis. The guards found inside the car a total of 1.12 million tablets of Taramdol drug, and 1.28 million tablets of Tamil drug.
The seizures were delivered to the competent authorities for legal action.
Egyptian authorities have escalated measures at the country’s borders to cease attempts of illegal immigration, as well as drug and weapon smuggling.
In November, border guards seized 478 weapons and large amount of explosive devices. The campaign also arrested 15 tons of different types of drugs including: Hashish, Opium, marijuana, and Tramadol and Tamil drugs.
During the same month, some 610 unregistered migrants of different nationalities were arrested at borders, while in September; border guards arrested around 2,215 people in cities on the Mediterranean and at the Egyptian-Libya borders.
