CAIRO: A passenger was arrested Sunday at the Cairo Airport for trying to smuggle a total of 620 grams of hashish inside his shoes, Youm7 reported.

Security authorities at the airport suspected an Egyptian passenger boarding an Emirates Airlines plane heading to Dubai. The man was inspected, and was referred to investigations after the load of drugs were found with him.

Over the past months, customs officials at airports have repeatedly stopped several attempts to smuggle drugs, money and artifacts.

In Nov.9, airport authorities busted a Paraguayan passenger at Cairo Airport over hiding some 1.5 kg of cocaine in his luggage after arriving from Ethiopia.

In Nov. 4, Borg el-Arab International Airport in the Mediterranean city of Alexandria stopped an attempt by an Egyptian passenger, arriving from Turkey, to smuggle amounts of cancer drugs worth 70,000 EGP.

In Nov.7, officials foiled and attempt by two German passengers to smuggle controlled medicines worth 500,000 EGP ($62,296) to Amsterdam.
