CAIRO: Night clubs and alcoholic beverage stores will be closed through Wednesday on the occasion of Prophet Mohamed Birthday coinciding with the day, a security source told Youm7 Monday.

Alcoholic beverages may not be sold that day, known as Mouled el-Nabi, the source said, adding that licenses to offer such drinks set the condition of withholding them on religious occasions.

Alcoholic beverage stores are closed every year for 29-30 days in the holy month of Ramadan, after which lines of people gather outside these stores to buy drinks they have not been able to purchase for a month.

In Cairo and Giza, there are some 450 licensed night clubs and alcoholic beverage stores.
